ADDC intensifies Aboi district demand

Nagaland News

KOHIMA, JANUARY 24: Following the expiry of the deadline served to Nagaland Government, the Aboi District Demand Committee (ADDC) today intensified its demand by launching a series of agitations from today.
Sources said that in pursuance of the ultimatum served by the ADDC to the Government on January 15 with January 23 as deadline demanding up-gradation of Aboi ADC Headquarter, under Mon district, to district headquarter, the ADDC on Sunday held a consultative meeting and resolved to launch the phase-wise agitation from today.
As part of the resolution, the ADDC successfully completed its first phase of bandh within the jurisdiction of the Konyak Union units of Aboi HQ, Chen HQ and Longchang HQ by picketing Government offices and restricting movement of Government vehicles on account of non-declaration of the prolonged demand for up-gradation of Aboi ADC more than 13 years.
Meanwhile, sources said ADDC during its meeting on Sunday decided to impose total bandh from January 25 and continue until its demand for a full-fledged district is fulfilled.
The ADDC mentioned that the demand for Aboi District was initiated in 2008 while No Objection Certificate was issued by the apex Konyak Union and later included in the Cabinet Memo in 2011 as Aboi in Sl No 1 and Noklak in Sl No 2.
It also said that ADDC and Konyak Union had an undertaking on October 15, 2021, resolving to seek creation of a new district in Konyak soil with the objective to bring development and progress to the vast population of Konyaks.
After much hue and cry, it is the Government who failed to declare Aboi HQ with the rest as a district on December 18, 2021 despite fulfilling criteria as required by the State Government, it said.
Declaring that this demand is a public demand without any differences and division within the tribe, the ADDC reaffirmed not to remain quiet until the Government fulfills its demand.
