Dimapur, April 20: Nagaland Governor PB Acharya has written to the Prime Minister of India to include one more district of Nagaland in the Transformation Aspirational District Programme for quick and effective transformation of backward districts of the country.
Congratulating the Prime Minster on launching the programme, the Governor explained that Mon district, with its large population, is still underdeveloped. He opined that inclusion of Mon along with Kiphire in the Transformation Aspirational District Programme will be beneficial not only for the two districts but for the State as a whole.
Earlier the Governor was briefed on the Aspirational District Programme by an officer of the programme, Sanjay Kumar, IAS during his visit to the State. Sanjay Kumar explained that the programme was launched by the Prime Minister of India in January 2018 with an aim to quickly and effectively transform the selected districts, raising the living standards of its citizens and ensuring inclusive growth for all – “Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas”.
With States as the main drivers, the programme will focus on the strength of each district, identify low-hanging fruits for immediate improvement, measure progress, and rank districts, he added.
The Governor requested Sanjay Kumar to keep him informed once a month on the matter related to the programme.
Governor also discussed the matter with the Chief Minister of Nagaland during their meeting earlier in the week.
