ABSU slams government on Bodoland issue

KOKRAJHAR, APRIL 27: The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), NDFB (Progressive) and People’s Joint Action Committee for Boroland Movement (PJACBM) on Thursday slammed the BJP-led state and Union Governments and observed 26 April as ‘Betrayal Day’ in 7 different districts for failing to give a positive gesture towards the solution of Bodoland problem.
The occasion was observed at Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, Udalguri, Sonitpur, Lakhimpur and Karbi Anglong by ABSU where several hundreds of supporters in each district staged 3 hours’ sit-in-protest demonstrations with black badges.
ABSU president Promod Boro said the student body had set April 26 as deadline for a response from the Government for initiating a solution to the Bodoland problem but the BJP Government at the Centre and the state had no time to listen to their demand. He said the BJP Government had promised to solve the Bodoland problem if it came to power, but the Central Government led by BJP has done nothing in 4 years.
The ABSU president said the state Government had been giving responses only to ULFA but has been systematically ignoring the NDFB. “The Government is keen to solve the problems of Ulfa saying it is united although the Paresh Baruah faction is still active and continuing armed struggle. But in case of NDFB, the Government says that their factions are not united and their problems cannot be solved,” he said. (TNN)
