AASU 30th general conference begins


Dimapur, January 4: The 39th general conference of Aqahuto Tokukujo Kiphimi Kuqhakulu (Aqahuto Area Students’ Union – AASU) got underway today on the theme ‘Envisioning Excellence’. The conference is hosted by Shokhuvi village.
On the first day of the conference today, Y. Kikheto Sema, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary, Finance & Land Resource, who was the special guest, urged the youngsters not to let “anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity” 1 Timothy 4:12. He said excellence cannot happen magically but a long process and also excellence is not only in academic or jobs but excellence can happen in our own life values and quality of life.
“Irrespective of profession, you can also achieve excellence in your own ways,” he stated.
He was impressed with the farmers of Phek district who sell their produces by keeping it at marketing shed without physically being present. He said price for each products were pinned and a box is kept aside so that any traveller can take the product and drop the amount in the box. Kikheto said the idea is an excellent means of selling and even speaks a lot about the trust of the farmers on unknown people.
He advised the student to always set their goals higher so that even if they can’t achieve the original goal they can still achieve the next target. He told them to believe in themselves saying self confidence is vital to every success.
Kikheto said that without humbleness they wont be able to achieve success and so urged them to be humble. “If you associate with eagles, you will learn how to soar to great heights. But if you run with dogs, you will learn how to bark,” he said and advised the students to do things differently and also try to do what other refuse to do in a positive manner.
Pastor Shokhuvi Baptist Church, Kiyezhe Chishi said the invocation prayer while Shokhuvi Students’ Union performed the opening ceremony and Ghotovi Zhimo, Head GB Shokhuvi village said the welcome address. General secretary AASU, Zakali Aye present the annual report and president of Aqahuto Area GB Association, Victo Achumi also exhorted the gathering.
