AAI to develop Dimapur Airport

Dimapur, February 15: Senior officials of the Airport Authority of India from Delhi held a meeting with Governor of Nagaland at Kohima on February 14 to discuss improvement of Dimapur Airport and its infrastructure and also to further improve air connectivity of the State.
AAI officials came to the State following a recent meeting of the Governor with Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of State (IC) for Civil Aviation, Government of India.
In the meeting with the Governor, it was decided to develop Dimapur Airport in two phases, said a Raj Bhavan press release.
Phase-I will ensure required extensions of the runway to enable Airbus and other modern aircrafts to operate from Dimapur. It will also cater to required security and safety needs besides increased passenger amenities.
The Alliance Air which is operating Guwahati-Dimapur-Imphal thrice a week is considering to increase services to daily. Indigo Air under Regional Connectivity has also assured to introduce its air service from first week of March connecting Dimapur with Guwahati, Imphal and Dibrugarh, the release informed.
For further improving regional air connectivity, the Civil Aviation Ministry is exploring launching sea-plane services in the North East. In Friday’s meeting, such possibility in Nagaland was also discussed and Doyang Hydel Project site was identified as a potential sea-plane operating base. Its technical feasibility will be studied and then taken up with the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation. Besides, an exercise to locate other potential sites in the State will also be carried out, the release said. (Page News Service)
