Kohima, February 19: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today on Friday termed the Nagaland Budget for the year 2021-22 as “very balanced” which incorporates innovation, youth and welfare programmes, gave top priority to agri & allied sector, health care and education.
“You should not brush away the good budget,” he told opposition members who had earlier been skeptical about the budget and assured that the Government will do justice to all concern.
On the huge budget deficit, Rio said the deficit was accumulated owing to the change of financial pattern and adverse financial award of the 13th Finance Commission, which has resulted in the gap areas getting ballooning over the years and moreover the present pandemic taking the toll compounded by meager share from Central taxes and duties.
Rio said that the government will focus on right sizing and rationalize the large manpower in the Government sector.
The time has come to curtail Government expenditure and give more importance to revenue generation so that resources are available for development, he said.
On Naga political issue, Rio said it will remain the top agenda of the Government. “Naga political issue has always remained the central concern of the State Assembly and also the top agenda of the government,” he said.
The CM said the discussions and the 4-point resolutions on Naga political issue adopted in the Assembly is the right message to the Naga people and others who are concerned for the early resolution of the Naga political issue.
“We reiterate our call to the negotiation parties for an early, honourable and inclusive solution. We also urge all the stakeholders to constantly strive towards unity and oneness,” he said.
Advisor for Mmhonlumo Kikon hailed the budget which has captured the aspiration of Naga people in articulating how a government sensitive for the Naga people.
This budget has responded to the times adequately and properly, he said adding this government has done best to safeguard the interest of the people.
A historic budget, was his verdict.
Advisor Toshi Wungtung also speaking in favour of the budget said despite the onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic under the leadership of the Chief Minister the state has been able to sail through because of the a stable Government. (Page News Service)
