Kohima, January 23: Former champions Mizoram earned their second full points to confirm their semi-final berth of the ongoing North East Dr T Ao Trophy being hosted by Nagaland at Indira Gandhi Stadium here.
The two times champs in 2011 and 2014, Mizoram blanked Assam by 4 goals in the second match of Group B on Thursday.
F Lalrinpuia (16) found an early goal in 3rd minute to lead the first half, but after the lemon break they added three more goals, one each from Banlalthanga (13), Lalchungnunga Chhangte (24) and M S Dawngliana (15) in 77th, 80th and injury added time.
Winning today’s match, Mizoram with one more match to be played on January 25 have confirmed the entry into the knockout round from Group B.
In the second match of the day, Sikkim held Meghalaya in a 1-1 draw. Both teams were locked in a goalless draw during the first 45 minutes of play but it was Atlanson Kharmaw (14) scoring the lead goal for Meghalaya in 77th minute. Nonetheless, Sikkim returned to the game in the four minute injury added as Dawa Sherpa (15) netted the much needed equalizer to share a point each.
Today’s draw as increased Sikkim’s points to 4 to almost place them into the semi-finals with another match to be played against Mizoram on January 25.
