Dimapur, August 8: In a story of recovery and hope, an elderly couple, aged 93 (male) and 79 (female) successfully recovered and discharged from the COVID-19 Hospital Phek on August 8.
Although elderly population is one of the high-risk groups, it is the power and determination that made the recovery from COVID-19 possible, said Dr Vizolie Z. Suokhrie, Principal Director, State Health & Family Welfare Department.
Dr Suokhrie said despite the increasing rate of positive cases in the State, it is encouraging to witness the recovery rate. He acknowledged all the medical personnel in all the districts who are tirelessly rendering service despite many hardships.
The Department further appealed to the people not to panic and to say no to stigma and discrimination and to support patients and their family members. “COVID-19 is recoverable so let us not discriminate. Elderly and asymptomatic cases can also be cured at home with proper care. Through this experience, we are reminded again that elderly, children and other high-risk groups can recover in hospitals or home with proper care,” he said.
Dr Suokhrie further called upon all to follow precautionary measures by wearing mask, washing hands frequently, maintaining physical distancing and to call the State health helpline number 1800-345-0019 immediately if anyone develops any signs and symptoms of cough, fever or difficulty in breathing.
