86 wrestlers to view in 13th Open Naga Wrestling C’ship today

Kohima, April 8: The stage is all set for the 13th Open Naga Wrestling Championship organized by Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) and Chakhesang Wrestling Association (CWA) as the host unit at Kohima Local Ground Khouchiezie on Friday.

It will be held for the first time in two weight categories for which a total of 86 wrestlers including 61 for 80 Kgs and below category and 25 are for above 80 Kgs category.
The quarter finalist in both the events, which will make 16 wrestlers will vie for the “ultimate champion” title.
Informing this during a media briefing at Local Ground here this evening, NWA president Dr Hiabe Zeliang said while 59 wrestlers in below 80 Kgs are from the three wrestling communities – Angai, Chakhesang and Zeliang, two wrestlers – one each is from Ao and Lotha community.
They are Yimkum Sashi from Nokpu village of Mokokchung district and Thechamo N. Murry of Wokha village, Wokha district.
Prominent wrestlers for this event include: Reigning NWA Champion Venuzho Dawhuo, Reigning 12th Open NWA Champion Menuosetuo Yiese, former NWA champion Vechita Khesoh, former Open champion Dzieselatuo Keretsu, former ZWA champion Nlumrai Hegwang, Kezhavizo Thevo, Vekuzo Vezhü and Kekhriezo Nagi.
A total of Rs 6.90 lakh has been earmarked for the different categories as follows:
Weight category – Champion – Rs 50,000; Runners-up – Rs 30,000; 3rd place – Rs 20,000 and 4th place – Rs 15,000.
Ultimate Championship: Champion Rs 1.70 lakh, Runners-up – Rs 1.20 lakh; 3rd place – Rs Rs 1 lakh and 4th place – Rs 70,000.
NWA former president Neivikuolie Nicholas Khatsu said due to some unavoidable circumstances the Pay Per Viewer online system has been changed. Wrestling fans can now login to and register as a member to view the entire day’s event.
