8 schools declared tobacco-free in Zunheboto

Dimapur, June 20: Eight schools were declared as tobacco-free schools during a programme organised by NTCP Zunheboto Unit at the DC’s office chamber, Zunheboto on June 20.
St. Clare high school Akuluto; Hilto Children Home School, Akuluto; GHSS, Akuluto; Royal School, Akuluto; Unit school, NALTOQA; GPS, NALTOQA; Sparkle School NALTOQA and St. Paul School, NALTOQA were declared tobacco-free schools. Eight students home, pupil from Woodland Higher Secondary School Zunheboto were declared as Tobacco Free Home and certificates were given away by the Deputy Commissioner Zunheboto, Rahul Bhanudas Mali, IAS.
Addressing at the programme, the DC expressed his concern on the rise of tobacco usage, especially among the young group of citizens and students in particular. Use of tobacco products gradually leads to dreadful deceases and ultimately results to deadly cancer which consequences to a painful death, he said.
The DC urged the students not to be misled by tobacco advertisements by celebrities. He concluded by saying that, they should always be aware of things that benefit their health and others which are fatal.
The Deputy Commissioner appealed to NTCP Zunheboto Unit to continue their efficient programmes and to come up with more activities to tackle the menace of tobacco usages in the town and the district with special targets on schools and its surroundings, in order to completely eradicate tobacco products from the district.
