AGARTALA, JULY 1: Three days since 4 murders, 3 of which were cases of lynching, have been reported across the state, police have made 20 arrests – 8 have been held for being involved in lynching and 12 for spreading rumours.
“There have been no more arrests in the murder of Sukanta Chakraborty, who had been hired by the Government as an announcer to create awareness about rumour-mongering,” SP Jalsingh Meena said on Saturday.
The rest are on the run. The state has been witnessing sporadic cases of mob violence over the past few days since an 11-year-old boy, Purna Biswas, was found dead earlier this week. Police have arrested 3, including Purna’s maternal uncle, in connection with his murder, SP AP Singh said. (TNN)
