Kohima, August 22: Khonoma Rüffüno Nagaland (KRN) conducted its opening sports ceremony at Kezieke Ground, Khonoma on Thursday. KRN is slated to have its sports from August 22 till 24.
Rovilato Mor, (IAS) Commissioner & Secretary, Works & Housing speaking as the Guest of Honor stated that the village should remain grateful to the forefathers who had initiated the Rüffüno.
Mor maintained that Khonoma Rüffüno (KR) may probably be the first and the oldest set up, since it was set up in 1944. He expressed that the village should remain grateful to the forefathers for their visionary outlook in setting up the KR, which he maintained was set up to come together and to have fellowship with each other.
He stated that the Jubilee Committee, in commemorating its 75 years celebration has decided to have sports and games for better understanding and friendship among the younger generation.
Reflecting back on Khonoma- British war, 1879, Mor maintained that the village had “solid unity”. He added that the people were of one mind and thus, they were able to fight against the British Empire, which was very powerful and advanced back then. In commemoration of the 75 years, he called upon the younger generation to take the example of the former days, and be of one mind.
He called upon the players to be of one mind and to be cooperative and to display a spirit of sportsmanship which, he argued is the main objective of the sports.
He further wished the best to all the players and asked Khonoma people to be of one mind and spirit and asked the Almighty to help the village in the coming days.
The ceremony also saw the unveiling of waist coat and dress in commemoration of the 75 years anniversary. Khonoma village will celebrate its Khonoma Rüffüno 75th anniversary on September 1.
