75 years of Chakhesang tribe celebrated

Phek, January 8: Minister for Planning & Coordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs, Neiba Kronu on Sunday called upon the Chakhesang community to extend unflinching support and cooperation to the State Government and also the implementing agencies of various developmental projects being undertaken in Phek District.

The Minister was addressing the 75 years of Chakhesang Tribe celebration at Phek town today under the aegis of Chakhesang Public Organization (CPO) on the theme ‘Recognize, Celebrate and Inspire’.
Touching on the pace of development in road sector in the district, Kronu asked the concerned villages lying along the highway to do away with the practice of registering complaints against the authorities as it will hamper smooth execution of works. He maintained that whichever village lies on the highway and the road project touches the same are fortunate lot and should be considered as “benefitted village” and in no way “affected villages”.
Stating that the compensation alone comes to huge amount, he called upon the villagers to use it wisely by investing in income generating activities and also make an effort to ensure money circulation within the community.
Kronu also urged the Chakhesang community to strengthen the CPO resolution on protection and conservation of forest and wildlife within its jurisdiction. In this, he extended Rs 2 lakh to CPO for undertaking proper mechanism and strict implementation of the restriction on burning of jungles and killing of wild animals.
Further, Kronu assured corpus fund of Rs 10 lakh towards market linkages on agricultural sector. He encouraged the people to give more efforts towards large scale production to boost the rural economy.
This corpus fund will facilitate transportation of agricultural produces and also enable the farmers to sell their produces in the proper marketing shed in Kohima and Dimapur.
Extending greetings to the Chakhesang community, he called upon the people to forgive and forget past mistakes, if any, and reason together to march ahead for progressive society.
Later, he released souvenir and book on customary law published by CPO.
Also speaking on the occasion as guest speaker, MP (Rajya Sabha) KG Kenye said that Chakhesang community is marching ahead progressively and decisively which is highly commendable and holds a promising future. “We should henceforth vehemently safeguard and protect our collective interest against any internal dissent or external incitement,” he said.
