7 injured in poll-related violence in Mokokchung district


Dimapur, February 26: At least 7 persons were injured in poll-related violence in two Assembly constituencies in Mokokchung district in last 24 hours.
According to sources, a quarrel broke out between the supporters of NPF and NPP in Yaongyimsen village under 22 Arkakong A/C, resulting in the damage of a vehicle at first yesterday. The supporters were quarrelling reportedly after the concerned BLO delayed in giving away the voters’ slips.
Sources said that though 144 CrPC was imposed in Changtongya and police patrolling was done to calm the situation, one person was injured when unknown persons fired shots. He was taken to hospital and given first aid.
In another related incident, there are reports of 5 persons being injured after supporters of one party hurled a handmade bomb on the rival party supporters.
Police sources could not be contacted to confirm the incident.
Meanwhile, one BJP party worker was shot at Lirmen village under 30 Alongtaki A/C. He has been shifted to Referral hospital, Dimapur.
