7 clubs to vie for 3rd Kohima Football League

Kohima, June 1: The third edition of Kohima Football League (KFL) organized by Kohima Town Club (KTC) and scheduled to be held from June 8 to 26 at Astro-turf ground of Indira Gandhi Stadium Kohima will have seven clubs vying for the coveted title.
Besides defending champions Sechü-Zubza Football Club, Vanguard FC Tseminyu, Khriekesa FC, Forerunners FC Thizama and United 16 FC two clubs A. Yhome FC and Kohima Eagles FC are new entrants for the edition.
The champion will receive Rs 1.2 lakh with glittering trophy while runners-up will get Rs 80,000.
Meanwhile, the ceremonial launching of the jerseys of the seven clubs was held today with retired DGP and KTC adviser, K Kire as the special guest at Where’s The Food restaurant here.
The tournament will be held from June 8 to 26 at IG Stadium Kohima.
In his brief address, Kire, an enthusiast sportsperson himself, said that players belong to a common fraternity of sports. He therefore said that though they may be opponents during the game but once out they should maintain cordial relationship.
He encouraged the players to remain fit as the football is one of the most rigorous games. He also asked them to maintain discipline and dedication to be professional players.
Chaired by Convenor of 3rd KFL, Mathew Yhome the ceremony commenced with Rev. Fr. Renthungo Victor pronouncing invocation. KTC official Vikholie delivered the welcome address while Technical head William Koso gave the technical details of the tournament while secretary 3rd KFL Ruopfü Meyase tendered the vote of thanks.
