69th Phom Day observed at Longleng

Dimapur, June 8: Phom Day is a unique peace day observed by the Phom community on June 6 annually.
Phom Day was started in 1952 under the dynamic leadership of Lt. Hamnyei & Lt. Yongtau and other Phom intellectual leaders from different villages.


They took a pledge to stop headhunting, killing and attacking rival villages; this day marks the ending of headhunting era and beginning of a new dawn in Phom land.
Phom leaders gathered at Phom Day Pledge Declaration site at Longleng Town and observed the day with President of Phom People’s Council (PPC) M Shami Angh as Special Guest on Sunday, by maintaining all COVID-19 SOP.
In his message, Angh said that Phom Day is celebrated because of their forefathers who made a wise decision to stop headhunting and choose peace for growth and development.
He added that through the peace they obtained, they can live in peace and harmony today.
He urged the community to keep peace in the society and to strive to do good and to work for the welfare of the people.
Angh also called upon the young educated intellectuals to come forward with dedicated and loving heart to lead the society.


He appealed to everyone to stand together with a responsibility in facing the challenge of COVID-19 pandemic with optimism by following all safety COVID-19 protocols and SOPs.
