DIGBOI, December 28: Six minors hailing from Ritu Kathalguri, Kujupather and Miholiritu areas of Bordumsa, all students of Kujupather Sankardeva HS School under Bordumsa Police Station in Tinsukia district were apprehended by Bordumsa Police Station in Tinsukia district of upper Assam.
According to police sources, the youths were preparing to join the ulfa soon after completing their final examination which they were taking, till they were apprehended on Thursday evening.
“The youths were planning to leave the place for formal entry and training in the month of January”, said a police official based on the conversation between the recruiter and the youths on social media platform.
Though we had sufficient evidence to nab the youths for preventive and legal prosecution earlier, yet we wanted the youths to complete their exams as it matters a lot for their future,” informed the OC Bordumsa adding “we were expecting them to reconsider their designs but they didn’t and as such we held them as a preventive measure.”
Ironically, all the youths who were under 18 years of age were arrested from their respective residences located along the easternmost edge of Assam in Tinsukia district bordering Arunachal Pradesh.
Based on a suo motu case (78/19) registered u/s 13 UP Act, the apprehended youths were produced before the Juvenile Justice Board, Tinsukia this afternoon.
What was noteworthy during the visit of the correspondent in the village this morning was that the youths were leading miserable lives amidst poverty. “They were hardly able to meet both ends meet and were struggling hard for basic amenities in life,” informed a local relative of one of the youths.
