6 institutions in Kohima declared tobacco free

Dimapur, June 26: The quarterly meeting of District Level Coordination Committee (DLCC) on Tobacco Control was held on June 26 in the DC’s conference hall Kohima. The meeting was chaired by Lithrongla Tongpi, ADC, Kohima.
Dr. Hotokhu Chishi, Additional Director, HFW, Kohima State Nodal Officer (NTCP) declared the following six institutions as Tobacco Free Institutes in Kohima – Government High School Jakhama, Government Middle School Jakhama, Government High School Kigwema, The Vineyard School Kohima, KRIPA Foundation Head Office Kohima, Japfu Christian College and Integrated Rehabilitation Centre of Addiction (IRCA) KRIPA Foundation Kohima.
Deputy Commissioner Kohima, Anoop Khinchi, IAS also attended the meeting and discussed various issues regarding the activities DTCC Kohima. He encouraged the members to create more awareness among the general public and work towards declaring even public offices in Kohima as tobacco free institutes and also assured full support from the district administration.
The members of the District Level Coordination Committee also discussed various pressing issues such as the need to create tobacco control committees in all the colonies of Kohima and also to collaborate with various churches in Kohima to further sensitize the general public on health hazards of tobacco usage.
