4 orgs tell Dimapur police to strengthen policing

Dimapur, March 24: The Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI), Dimapur Urban Council Chairman Federation (DUCCF), ACAUT Nagaland and East Dimapur Business Association (EDBA) have expressed strong resentment and disapproval against the recent two shooting incidents within a span of 24 hours in Dimapur, and demanded the law enforcing agencies to immediately arrest the culprits and give exemplary punishment failing which the business community and civil societies will not remain silent and respond in a befitting manner.
In a joint press release, the four organizations said the victims Joy Chandra and Rekha Das were both shot and injured in relation to extortion and taxation. “The long spell of peace in Dimapur has been muddied by these two mindless shooting incidents and the perpetrators of these incidents are warned that they should not test the strong public sentiments by terrorizing the innocent public and the business community,” it stated.
The release observed that with the up-gradation of Police Commissionerate the public reposed their faith in the agency hoping for peace and tranquillity in Dimapur. However, it said the two incidents indicate that many areas and loopholes in policing are yet to be strengthened.
Further reminding the law enforcement agencies that with the beginning of the new financial year, illegal tax collection and harassment on the public and business community has increased, the release appealed to the police to take sufficient step by deploying adequate civilian cloth policeman in various sensitive and market areas, disseminate dedicated helpline contact numbers to all business establishments and the public, and deploy sufficient quick response and patrolling team to prevent recurrence of such terror incident.
