4-lane contractors dumping debris into Chathe River: CVC

Dimapur, May 8: The Chümoukedima Village Council (CVC) today said that in spite of specifications given to the contractors/constructors of the ongoing four-lane highway not to dump debris and loose soil in the river from Khuokhi River Bridge to Chathe river bridge at Patkai Christian College junction, the constructors/contractors are heedlessly continuing to dump debris, which has polluted the river and the public are being made to suffer.
Expressing displeasure over the lackadaisical manner in which the works are being carried out, the CVC said this has resulted in totally polluting the river water and creating health hazards to citizens who are basically dependent on the river and is also causing serious ecological impact on the pristine river.
It took serious exception of the haphazard practices of the construction companies and said it would not tolerate the needless suffering meted out to its people or allow the defacement of its environment at the hands of unmindful construction companies.
In a press release, CVC chairman, Razouvotuo Chatsu appealed to the district administration to take cognizance of the impeding situation, and issue an order to ban/restrict the dumping of debris in the Chathe River (Khuokhi River Bridge to Chathe River at Patkai Christian College Junction) by any companies or contractors who are engaged in the four-lane highway construction.
