4 Eastern Nagaland beauties opt out of Miss Nagaland

Nagaland News

KOHIMA, NOVEMBER 30: Four out of the 16 contestants of Miss Nagaland 2021 have backed out of the beauty pageant, informed the organizers Beauty and Aesthetic Society of Nagaland (BASN) today.
Four contestants from Eastern Nagaland area ~ Mon, Tuensang, Longleng and Kiphire districts ~ have withdrawn their participation from the contest due to the 2018 resolutions of the Eastern Nagaland Women Organization (ENWO), informed BASN president Melekhoto Pucho and other officials during a press conference at Hotel Crescent here today.

The 29th edition of Miss Nagaland is scheduled for December 10 at 5:30 p.m., at RCEMPA, Jotsoma, here as part of the Hornbill Festival.
The 4 contestants had gone through the auditions and everything was set for them along with other 12 contestants from Dimapur, Kohima, Mokokchung, Peren, Phek and Zunheboto for the final rounds of the beauty pageant, he said.
But disappointingly, on November 25, four of the girls conveyed their inability to participate in the contest, he said.
The reason is the 2018 resolution of the ENWO not to participate in Miss Nagaland Beauty Pageant but to have a beauty pageant of Eastern Nagaland, he said.
He recollected that the same year officials from Eastern Nagaland had approached the BASN informing that their girls would not be participating in the Miss Nagaland contest while also requesting the organizers not to accept any entries from anyone from the area.
Expressing unhappiness, Pucho said the BASN has been taken aback with the decision of the ENWO not allowing the potential girls of the area from participating in the contest, which is a prestigious State-level event.
As per the agreement signed after getting through the audition round, the BASN has the authority to take action against those backing out of the contest, however the organizers have decided not to initiate against them, he said.
He said the 4 of them had said that they were not aware of the ENWO resolution.
Considering the potentials of the 4 girls and also making an inclusive approach, Pucho said BASN makes a “final appeal” to ENWO to kindly allow them to participate in the event.
However, he said that if the ENWO does not accept their request, BASN would go ahead and hold the pageant with 12 contestants.
Meanwhile, Pucho informed that tickets for viewers priced at Rs 500 and Rs 1000 are available at Symphony Café while it would also be available on the day of the contest at the venue.

Winner of Miss Nagaland 2021 will receive a cash reward of Rs. 1 lakh with gift hampers, Brand Ambassador of TaFMA and State Icon of Election Department. She will also get direct entry to Miss Northeast 2022.
The first runner-up will receive a cash reward of Rs. 70,000, gift hampers and District Icon of Election Department. She too will also get direct entry to Miss Northeast 2022. The second runner-up will receive a cash reward of Rs. 50,000 with gift hampers.
