Dimapur, July 14: The 3rd Nagaland State Angling Competition 2019 was held at Lavi lake Dimapur on July 13. Altogether 260 anglers from Assam, Manipur, Tripura, Karnataka, West Bengal and Nagaland competed for top honours.
The competition was organized by the Anglers Association Nagaland in collaboration with Department of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources, Government of Nagaland.
Senti Ao IAS, Commissioner Secretary, Department of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources, Nagaland who graced the prize distribution ceremony as special guest said angling is the principal method of sport fishing and acknowledged those who started the association in Nagaland.
With the increase of awareness for sport fishing in the state, commissioner secretary said organizing of such events will educate the people about the importance to conserve aquatic biodiversity. Such endeavour will also discourage the public to restrain themselves from using of poison, dynamite (explosive) and electric for fishing, he added.
Hrishikesh who emerged champion walked away with a cash prize of Rs 50,000 along with a trophy and certificate. First runner up S Premjit received a cash prize of Rs 30,000 with certificate and second runner up Sani Pongen pocketed Rs 20,000 and certificate. Subash Chand and Abdul who finished in fourth and fifth places got a cash award of Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively.
Other 35 participants were presented angling gears, accessories and goodies.
Internationally renowned angler, Derek D’Souza who is the technical advisor to AAN greeted the anglers on the occasion.
Mhombemo Nguille, vice president, AAN chaired the closing function while Phukato Sumi, president AAN proposed the vote of thanks.
