3rd Kohima Football League: Vanguard & Forerunners draw

Kohima, June 21: Inclement weather condition played spoilsports as the match between the two top teams 3rd edition of Kohima Football League – Vanguard FC Tseminyu and Forerunners FC Thizama ended in a draw on Friday.
Playing a closely contested match, which was supposed to be the deciding match as the new champion of Kohima Football League played under the aegis of Kohima Town Club, either sides in their effort to defend rival attacks had a yellow card each – K Atun Konyak of Forerunners in 36th minute and Letkhokai Kuki of Vanguard FC in 39th minute.
After much struggle, it was Forerunners FC scoring the lead through Vekhruto Resu in 43rd minute to end the first half but after the lemon break he was also cautioned for reckless tackle in 54th minute.
The 58th minute witnessed Yhunshalo Kemp helping the toppers Vanguard FC to return to the game with the much needed equalizer and thereafter just on the nick of the conclusion he too was yellow carded.
Ending the match in a disappointing draw, Vanguard and Forerunners shared a point each to stand at 13 points each. Vanguard is on top with single goal difference against Forerunners.
Nonetheless, both teams have a match each to become the new champion as in the last leg of the tourney Vanguard will play against Khriekesa FC while Forerunners will clash with A Yhome FC.
Match for June 22: A Yhome FC vs United 16 FC at 3 p.m.
KTC penalty shootout today
The Kohima Town Club will be organizing the first penalty shootout 2019 at IG Stadium Kohima on Saturday from 8 am onwards. The champions will walk away with a cash prize of Rs. 50,000, runners up with Rs. 30,000 and including the individual award for best goalkeeper with Rs. 5000 thousands all along with citations.
