3rd Kohima Football League: Sechü Zubza FC and Vanguard FC wins


Kohima, June 10: Defending champion Sechü-Zubza Football Club and Vanguard FC Tseminyu marked win to earn full points in their respective matches of Kohima Football League played at IG Stadium here.
In the first match, Rhitsho Mero scored four goals as Sechü Zubza FC thrashed debutants A Yhome FC 5-1.
Despite a better start for Yhome FC, Zubza had the better edge with captain Rhitsho Mero opening the account in the 8th minute.
Yhome FC lacked the quality to score as they missed numerous chances in the first half and Mero added his second goal with a minute remaining to double the lead for Zubza team 2-0.
There was no stopping for Zubza as the captain scored his hatrick in the 48th minute after the starting of the second half. Shurhosul Zhotso found the back of the net in the 61st minute to make it 4-0.
Zubza conceded a goal as Vilhoubeituo Yhome scored in the 75th minute but Mero added his fourth goal in the 79th minute to finish the game 5-1.
Vanguard FC came from behind to snatch a victory
In the second match of the day, Vanguard FC Tseminyu made a late comeback in the second half as they defeated another debutant team Kohima Eagles FC by 2-1. A last minute penalty goal from the captain Sinenlo Kath helped Vanguard FC to get three points in the encounter.
In the match, debutant team Kohima Eagles got their first goal as Minerva Punjab winger Hitova Ayemi was bought down inside the area for referee to award the penalty and he scored for Kohima Eagles in the 24th minute. Debutant team should have scored more to take the lead but a wasteful first half ended in 1-0 lead.
In the second half, it was a different story as Vanguard rallied back from behind to find the equalizer and Kenyuyhun Khing scored a stunner for Vanguard FC in the 90th minute. With the match ending in a likely draw, but an injury added time penalty taken by Sinenlo Kath gave them the full points.
