Kohima, Jun 8: Seyie Auto Maruti Suzuki 3rd Kohima Football League 2019 got underway at IG Stadium Kohima on Saturday under the aegis of Kohima Town Club.
Defending champions Sechü Zubza and Forerunners FC registered their first win of the league matches with a thumping victory against their opponents in the two matches played today.
Playing the inaugural match, defending champoins Sechü Zubza scored 7 passed Khriekesa FC during the first match to secure the three points.
Gideon Leo and captain Rhitsho Mero scored two goals each for Zubza, while Mhalelhoulie, Shürhosul Zhotso and Disingam Gangmei scored a goal each during the defending team.
In the match, Shürhosul Zhotso opened the scoring in the 28th minute. Stephen Rutsa added the second goal in the 36th minute to make it 2-0.
In the second half, the captain Rhitsho Mero scored in the 48th minute and Disingam Gangmei scored in the 55th minute.
The substitute Gideon Leo who came in place of Zhotso scored in the 66th minute and 71st minute.
Rhitso finished the game by scoring in the 75th minute to make it 7-0.
In the second match, Forerunners FC blanked United 16 FC by 5-0.
Khwetelhi Thopi scored a hat-trick, Vekhruto Resu and Keneiguzo Seletsu added a goal each for Forerunner FC.
Resu opened the scoring in the 24th minute and Thopi added the second goal in the 32nd minute for Forerunner FC.
In the second half, Keneiguzo Seletsu scored the third goal in 49th minute, Thopi scored in the 53rd and 85th minute to become the first hat-trick scorer of the tournament.
This edition, the champoins will recieve a cash prize of Rs 1,20,000 along with running trophy and citations, runners-up with Rs 80,000.
Advisor for youth resources and sports Zale Neikha as the special guest for the opening ceremony announced that the PDA government, under the leadership of Neiphiu Rio, will soon be laying another Astro-turf at Dimapur to elevate the sportspersons and equip the state with more standard football ground.
He said the PDA government was trying their best to develop the infrastructure and provide adequate facilities to promote, train, and motivate and enable our sportsperson to compete with the rest of the country.
He further congratulated the club for taking this initiative to bring young talents in this platform to compete with one another.
Calling upon the young budding footballers to strive harder and work with sincerity and dedicatio, he asked the players to give their best and showcase your talents in the true spirit of the game.
Welcome address was delivered by KTC president Dr. Viketoulie Pienyü and oath taking by technical committee member Kechangulie Dul to the seven participating teams.
