Kohima, July 9: St. Mary’s Cathedral Higher Secondary School (HSS) and Don Bosco HSS today became the last two teams to confirm their quarter-final berth for the 3rd Kohima District Inter School Football Tournament jointly organized by Royal Club Kohima, Department of School Education and Youth Resources and Sports at IG Stadium here.
Playing the penultimate pre-quarter final match, St. Mary’s Cathedral Higher Secondary School blanked Chandmari Higher Secondary School by 2-0 to book their quarter final berth.
The first half of the match witnessed rigorous attacks from either sides but none managed to find the rival nets.
Even the second half was also closely contested but St. Mary’s Cathedral HSS skipper Jigme managed to break the deadlock in the 57th minute while Viva confirmed the win with the second score in the injury added time of the match.
In a closely contested last match of the round of 16, Don Bosco Higher Secondary School won against their neighbor Christ King HSS vie tie-breaker as the teams were locked in 1-1 draw during the stipulated 60 minutes match time and also the 15 minutes extra time.
Don Bosco HSS scored first in 23rd minute through Khriesizo while Christ King HSS also responded with the equalizer in 27th minute through Mhaphruolhou Sekhose not only ending the first 30 minutes in a draw but also the second half and extra time.
However, the tie-breaker favour Don Bosco HSS as they managed 4 against 2 of Christ King HSS.
