36th PDSA meet begins: Patton assures PDA serious to develop sports in Nagaland

Thenyizu, Mar 23: Thenyizu village, Chozuba sub-division in Phek district is resembling a mini Olympic village as Chokri Area Games and Sports Association (CAGSA) is hosting the 36th Meet of Phek District Sports Association (PDSA) in the two at Thenyizu village, Chozuba sub-division, Phek district on March 23, 2021.
Nagaland Deputy CM Y Patton officially declared the event open while also inaugurating the new local ground of the Thenyizu village.

The five day meet will have weight category of Naga wrestling (men), track & field events and games – football, volleyball and basketball for both men and women.
Around 800 sportspersons and officials are competing in the meet, which will conclude on March 27, 2021.
In his speech, Patton said the present PDA government headed by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio is committed to promote Games and Sports through Youth Resources Department that will benefit our talented youngsters under the banner of Khelo India, which is emphasizing more on the promotion of indigenous games and Sports.
Therefore, the government of the day is encouraging the sport talents of the State to put Nagaland on the sports map of India and even in the International levels., he said.
Maintaining that games and sports are all about skill, strength, stamina and determination, he said to be a winner, one should have all this combination while also leading a disciplined life.
Sportspersons should stay away from harmful habits which are destroying our youngsters today, he said.
“We, Nagas’ are naturally talented and second to none in the field of Games and Sports, if only we try. We have a proud history of representing the Country even in the International arena and this legacy should be uphold by the younger generation,” he said.
Sports also offer a lucrative profession and the present PDA Government in the State is committed to work in all possible ways for promoting Games and Sports in the State, he asserted.
Patton also announced Rs 15 lakh for maintenance of road leading to the newly constructed local ground of the village.
Speaking on the occasion guest of honour, Minister for Planning and Coordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs, Neiba Kronu said in today’s world sportspersons are considered to be the most important and respected persons. But they have to be a qualitative persons and have yo perform at various levels from village to state to national and international, he said.
Nonetheless, he called upon sportspersons to be serious in which ever event they choose and pursue it as profession and not just for the sake of participation in tournaments.
He encouraged them to maintain discipline and sportsman spirit and give their best to excel at all levels and achieve greater heights.
He also asked sportsperson not to indulge in consuming unwanted substances including intoxicants but to focus on healthy diet habits.
Touching on politics, Kronu said the present government in the state is serious about development and therefore asked the people of Chozuba Assembly Constituency to elect their representative to be in the ruling dispensation.
Further, as the only legislator in the present government from the district, Kronu also announced Rs 10 lakh for construction of mini gallery in the newly completed Thenyizu local ground.
Chaired by PDSA Advisor Colo Mero Pastor of Thenyizu Baptist Church Thepuzhoyi Theyo pronounced invocation. Thenyizu VDB secretary Thepukrayi Nienu delivered welcome address while PDSA president Nezosa Tetseo delivered presidential address. CAGSA president Vekhayi Ruho extended greetings while PDSA athletics secretary Chotha Soho administered oath to the participants.

Below 65 kg: 1st Agi of Sekrezu Area Sports Association; 2nd Cüsavoyi Chüzho of Chokri Area Games & Sports Association
Below 74 kg: 1st Vevotso Lase of Chokri Area Sports Association; 2nd Nedulhu of Chozuba Area Sports Association.
Below 86 kg: 1st Vemele Thingo of Chokri Area Games & Sports Association; 2nd Shurhovoyi Nienu of Seceku Area Sports Association
Men 100 metre: 1st Zhokho Thingo of Chokri Area Games and Sports Association (CAGSA) (11.76 seconds); 2nd Ato Rhakho from Tizu Area Sports Association (TASA) (11.85 seconds) and 3rd Nuritso Keyho from Chozuba Area Sports Association (CASA) (11.94 seconds).

800 metre race: 1st Mulusayi Medeo of CASA, 2nd Mutsizo Lohe of CCSA and 3rd Nucukho Rhakho of CAGSA.
Men 1500 metre race: 1st Mulusayi Medeo of CASA, 2nd Nucukho Rhakho and 3rd Wede T Mero from Seceku Area Sports Association (SASA).
Men’s field events, Melevo Rose of CAGSA, Venuzo Dawhuo of CAGSA and Khrethovey from CASA won Gold, silver and bronze respectively in Shot-put.
In Discuss throw the gold medal was won by Venuzo Dawhuo from CAGSA, while silver medal was won by Vevocüyi Rhakho of CAGSA and Vedekho Soho won bronze.
Javelin Throw, CCSA player Verohu Rahüyi, SASA’s Sapunyi Krocha and Phoyisha Area Sports Association (PASA) player Sashi won gold, silver and bronze medal.
Women track events:
100 Metre: Vephilu Hoshi of PASA (13.75 sec), CAGSA’s Kuzhopolu Medeo (13.78 sec) and PASA Choyivelu Nienu (14.28 sec)
200 M:
PASA’s Vephilu Hoshi won Gold while CAGSA’s Kuzhopolu Medeo was the silver medalist and Valenulu Tetseo from CASA was the bronze medalist.
400 Meter: Valenulu Tetseo of CASA, Medolu Rhakho of CASA and Vekulu Khesoh of CAGSA won Gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.
800 metre: 1st Vesatsulu Khesoh of CASA, 2nd Cekrotalu Khesoh of CASA and 3rd Neipre-u Kupa of Khezha-khuzha area sports association (KKASA).
1500 meter race, CASA’s Vesatsulu Khesoh won another gold medal, silver by Vebilu Kezo of PASA and bronze by CAGSA’s Mery Chuzho.
Women’s Field events: Veluno Shijo of Tizu Area Sports Association (TASA) won Gold medal in Discuss throw, Silver by TASA’s Kuvelu Medeo and bronze by PASA’s Niekuvolu Vese.

Javelin Throw: CASA’s Mudosalu Nyekha won Gold, CASA’s Vekhonulu Dozo silver and CAGSA’s Shodulü Swiho bronze.
Shot put: Veluno Shijo of TASA won gold, Honi Medeo of CAGSA won silver and Kuvelu Medeo of TASA won bronze.
Long Jump: CAGSA’s Kuzhopolu Medeo won Gold medal, Choyivelu Nienu of PASA won silver and Muletalu Tetseo of Chokri Area Games & Sports Association won bronze.
