
Dimapur, November 12: The opening ceremony for the XXXIX Nagaland Police Duty-cum-Sports Meet 2021 was held with Neiphiu Rio, Chief Minister as SPECIAL Guest and Dr. Narinder Dhruv Batra , President, Indian Olympics Association and President of International Hockey Federation as Guest of Honour at NAPTC Stadium, Chumoukedima,on November 12, 2021.
In his welcome speech T.John Longkumer, IPS, DGP, Nagaland said that 14 thousand from all different units of Nagaland Police assemble and compete each other in sports, games and duties. He mentioned that the games and duties are needed to identify outstanding sportsperson and also facilitate them to represent the department and the state in the regional national and international events.
Dr. Narinder Dhruv Batra , President, Indian Olympics Association and President of International Hockey Federation has said that sports is an integral part of police life. He said he is privileged to note that Nagaland is also setting up a sports battalion, the first of its kind in India.
This sports meet will help one and all to learn how to achieve great heights also reach the height of capability for a considerable amount of time, he added
He said that the most important aspect to remember about sports is to play fair, give your absolute best and winning is not the most important aspect, but participating in the event and giving your 100% is the most important.
He said that Nagaland is very good in sports like Archery, wrestling and encouraged them to put up hockey in their sports curriculum.
In his address, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio congratulated the frontline Police officers who were on duty serving the public during the COVID pandemic risking their lives. He said that men and women should be given equal importance towards sports in order to avoid losing medals.
He hoped the youth of Nagaland will take the opportunity our make our people and Dr.Batra proud. He said, “Nagaland as the nation knows as backward and minority state is lacking behind in all affairs, even in the Indian Olympic association we could be affiliated only after 41 years of our statehood and that shows how much we were pushed back because of not realizing to come together and to work together for all practical purposes.”
He hoped that Naga people will unite and look for peace and development so that our youth will get an opportunity and platform to compete. He said that he is hoping to promote and give opportunity platform to the police personnel as they are the youth and hope of our society who have committed themselves to serve and protect the people in all difficulties.
