32,080 IMFL bottles seized in 2020-21: Excise Deptt

KOHIMA, FEBRUARY 15: A total of 1187 cases of assorted liquor (32,080 bottles) with a street value of Rs 431 lakh were seized by the Excise and Prohibition Department in the fiscal year 2020-21.
In the department’s annual report submitted on the second day of the 7th Session of 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly, it stated that 1188 persons were arrested in the same period.
Out of the 1188 persons arrested, 7 were in connection with ‘narcotics & other drugs cases’ and the remaining on ‘liquor cases’.
Also, 480 kg of ganja, 3.510 kg of brown sugar, 2159 bottles of cough syrup, 6125 capsules of prohibited drugs, 32080 bottles of IMFL, 10874 bottles of beer and 1795 litres of country liquor were seized.
The department informed that a sum of Rs 165 lakh was generated through the revenue receipt on Excise duty and license fee. It also informed that revenue earning of the department has been reduced drastically ever since the introduction of Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition Act 1989. (Page News Service)
