KU condemns
Meanwhile the Konyak Union has condemned the firing by unknown armed groups at the Village Guard (VG) camp at Lampong Sheanghah in the wee hour of June 5 injuring two Assam Rifle jawans stationed there.
In a release, the KU questioned why the camp was attacked. “Village guard are the protector of the village. Their sole duty is to maintain peaceful environment within its confined jurisdiction,” it said.
Informing that the KU along with Konyak Students Union (KSU) had conducted spot verification, the release said it was dismayed to observe that innocent villagers had to suffer brunt of the attack. “All schools were closed and innocent villagers were held captive for interrogation,” it said while appreciating the Assam Rifle for heeding to the plea of KU in releasing the captive.
Urging the law enforcing authority to nab those responsible for the attack, the KU also stated that the group/s responsible for the June 5 firing has violated the resolution of the Konyak Union in maintaining its territory as peace zone. In this regard, the KU has called an emergency meeting on June 6 at 10 am. All Konyak frontal organisations (KNSK/KSU/KGOU/KVCU/KBBB/MDGBU) along with KU advisory board have been requested to attend the meeting without fail.
The KU also prayed for speedy recovery of the two victims in the attack.
