Dimapur, September 22: North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research observed 2nd General Session of NEISSR Alumni Association cum Seminar on Youth Empowerment in collaboration with Nehru Yuva KendraSangathan (NYKS) Dimapur on September 20 at NEISSR Conference Hall.
Addressing the gathering, K Phyobemo Lotha, District Youth Coordinator, NYKS Dimapur congratulated the alumni and the NEISSR faculty for conducting such program which is a rare opportunity where the former students come together and share their experiences with the present students.
He raised two very important questions to think and ponder upon, “How many of us want to stand up, but fail to get up?” and “How many of us wish to lead the way but fail to choose or create a path?”He encouraged one to be proactive about being leaders of today when one can act and voice out the needs of the society.
The event was chaired by Tongtali Obed, General Secretary, NEISSR Alumni and invocation was offered by Loreni Murry, Alumni Member. Welcome speech was delivered by Kuvoto Khamo, Chairman, NEISSR Alumni Association. At the event, Rev. Fr. Poji, Administrator NEISSR presented the opening remark and emphasized on certain pointers to adhere to in order to excel in life i.e. to be an upright person, need of team spirit, to work hard and enhance connectivity with people from various walks of life not for one’s own benefit but to bring good changes in the society.
Further in the program, a special song was presented by Susan Kulnu and Imtisenla Kubzari. Four alumni: Matsungienla, David Ndang, Mhonlumi, Sanjos E. Kikon and Tongtali Obed shared about their past experience after the completion of Masters in Social Work.
While addressing the gathering, the alumni encouraged the present students to never give up and continue being strengthened in whichever direction or path one chooses. They emphasized on the importance on improving one’s confidence and to recognize the diamond within oneself.
The alumni also mentioned about the various available schemes in Nagaland i.e. Sakhi One Stop Centre, which works for women in need; Ayushman Bharat which is a health protection scheme; Pradhan Mantri Matritva Vandana Yojana, a first born child incentive; National Rural Livelihood Mission focusing on promoting self-employment and organization of rural poor into Self Help Group.
The concluding remark was delivered by Dr. Toli Kiba, Assistant Professor, NEISSR. Dr. Kiba applauded the former students for the initiative of organizing a programme to facilitate interaction with the present students and enable networking amongst the present students, alumni and the institute.
She also highlighted about Professional Progressive Circle (PPC) where the students form groups based on their common interest and prepare project proposal. She further mentioned that the building of brand image of NEISSR is testament to the lasting impression created by the alumni in the society at large. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by P Limasenla Jamir.
