28th LMPS 2020 kick starts at Tuensang

Tuensang, November 19: The 28th Loyem Memorial penalty shootout kick started on November 19 at Loyem Memorial ground Tuensang, with DC Tuensang, Kumar Ramnikant IAS as the chief guest. 46 teams are participating in the competition held on the theme “Kick social discrimination” organized by Confederation of Chang Students’ Union.
One of the most significant football trophies of Tuensang District had to resort to a penalty shootout instead of football matches this year because of the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC applauded the organizing committee and CCSU for bringing up such event during the pandemic with proper SOP and guidelines. As the theme states, it is very true that discrimination does exist with humans but fighting discrimination in the form of sports is in good spirit, he said, and encouraged all the participating teams to play with comraderie so that the true essense of sports can be achieved. He also advised all the teams to maintain proper guidelines and maintain the SOP so that together with cooperation, we can beat COVID-19.
M. Mongba, convener LMT, said LMT has been organized for 27 years as a senior soccer open championship, but due to the global pandemic the 28th edition has been reduced to penalty shootout.
The ceremony began with a special match appearance by Beti Bachao Beti Padhao between girls from Baptist Thangyen School and Wella Foundation School. This was followed by an exhibition match between DC 11 (Deputy Commissioner’s team) and SP11 (Superintendent of Police’s team).
Despite the darkness that’s been looming over the world because of the pandemic, Tuensang managed to bring some light in the town through the event. The penalty shootout also witnessed some pandemic inspired team names such as Corona FC, Lockdown FC and Pandemic 8.
The opening ceremony was chaired by Chaangmongsen, Women Co-ordinator, CCSU. Rev. S. Achila, Associate Pastor Women, TBBL said the invocation followed by a welcome address by M. Mongba, Convenor LMT. R. Sanen performed a special number.
