28,016 employment generated in Nagaland under PMEGP

Dimapur, March 16: An estimated 28,016 employment was generated in Nagaland in the last 4 years (2019-2023) under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) for assisting entrepreneurs in setting up of new units in the non-farm sector.
This information was given by Minister of State for Micro Small and Medium Enterprises, Bhanu Pratap Singh Verma in a written reply to the Lok Sabha today.
According to the Minister’s written reply, in 2019-2020, 1109 units were assisted in Nagaland with Rs 2650.24 lakhs margin money disbursed. The estimated employment general in the year was 8872.
In 2020-2021, 740 units were assisted and margin money disbursed was Rs 2045.46 lakhs. The estimated employment general in the year was 5920.
During 2021-2022, 1241 units were assisted with Rs 2494.89 lakhs margin money disbursed. The estimated employment general in the year was 9928. In 2022-23 (as on 28.02.2023), 412 units were assisted and margin money disbursed was Rs 1379.44 lakhs. The estimated employment general in the year was 3296.
Under PMEGP, General Category beneficiaries can avail of Margin Money (MM) subsidy of 25% of the project cost in rural areas and 15% in urban areas. For beneficiaries belonging to Special Categories such as Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, OBCs, Minorities, Women, Ex-servicemen, Physically Handicapped, Transgenders, beneficiaries belonging to Northeastern Region, Hill and Border areas, and Aspirational Districts, the Margin Money subsidy is 35% in rural areas and 25% in urban area. The maximum cost of project is Rs. 50 lakhs in the manufacturing sector and Rs. 20 lakhs in the service sector.
Since 2018-19, 2nd financial assistance of up to Rs. 1 crore for upgradation and expansion of well-performing existing PMEGP/REGP/MUDRA units have been introduced with subsidy of 15% (20% for NER and hilly areas).
Women-owned enterprises
Meanwhile out of a total of 10895 Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Nagaland, 4183 are owned by women.
According to another written reply by Minister of State for Micro Small and Medium Enterprises, Bhanu Pratap Singh Verma in the Lok Sabha today, 609 women-owned enterprises in Nagaland have received credit guarantees under the Credit Guarantee Scheme (CGS) during the year 2022-23 (as on 28.02.2023) amounting to Rs. 37.51 crore.
Also 175 women-owned enterprises have received margin money subsidy under Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) from Nagaland during the year 2022-23 (as on 28.02.2023). (Page News Service)
