Dimapur, October 26: Nyenshen FC defended Loyem Memorial Trophy title once again on Saturday at Loyem Memorial Ground, Tuensang after beating Khulioh King FC 1-0.
Khulioh King FC in its 25th year after its formation entered the competition as one of the favorite to lift the cup and rightly so defeated each team they faced until the champions. Nyenshen FC emerged as the better team at the end of the final whistle. Both teams engaged in a heated battle in the first half failing to make any mark in the scoreboard.
After the half time break, Ratobe scored the only goal in the 55th minute to send the fans in frenzy.
The champions took more defensive approach after the goal which led Khulioh attackers to unleash the force. They came close to scoring in the dying minutes hitting the crossbar. Despite heavy rain, windy and cold weather the ground was fully packed with football lovers.
The winners walked away with trophy, certificates, medals and a cash prize of Rs. 2,10,000.
The runners up also received certificates, medals and a cash prize of Rs. 1,10,000.
Longkhoi of Khulioh King FC got the golden boot, Olando of Nyenshen FC got the golden ball and Tia of DEF, Tuensang got the golden ball. Each semi-finalist also received Rs. 25,000.
