Kohima, November 20: Debutants Puliebadze Club Jotsoma today became the first team to enter the final of the ongoing silver jubilee edition of Classic Cup organized by Classic Club Kohima at local ground here.
Playing a thrilling first semi-final of the tourney, Pulibadze Club defeated strong title contenders Kohima Eagles with a second half goal netted by Neilie Nagi.
Puliebadze Club dominated the game and almost found the breakthrough in the 10th minute as Ngachonhor’s shot was thwarted by Kohima Eagles custodian Ikiho Assumi. Five minute later, Neilie Angami’s shot from inside the danger zone missed the target while couple of minutes later Menonikho Nakhro long ranger missed the cross bar.
It was in the 31st minute that Kohima Eagles got into the rival zone with Limakumzuk Ao’s header directed for the nets but Puliebadze custodian and skipper Tsoneru Odyuo was alert to make a diving save following which there was not further decisive move and the first half ended with teams locked in a goalless draw.
After the lemon break, Kohima Eagles got an opportunity in the 57th minute as Menguzelie Rutsa’s long cross was beautifully headed by Sürhosül Zhotso but only to be denied by custodian Odyuo.
Both sides continued their attacks and counter attacks and it was Neilie Nagi finally making the breakthrough with an excellent header assisted by Theingam Pheirim in the 66th minute which ultimately put Jotsoma Club Puliebadze into the final of the tournament.
