24 bands to participate in Hornbill Int’l Music Festival

Dimapur, November 26: The 2018 edition of the Hornbill International Music Festival (HIMF) is all set to begin from December 1, Saturday here at Agri Expo, Dimapur and this year, a total of 24 bands are going to be a part of it.
Talking about the upcoming event with the media fraternity here at Hotel Saramati, Atsung Jamir, Director of LiveNow Events, which is managing the mega event, mentioned that the top three prizes for this year has been kept as Rs. 10 lakhs, Rs. 5 lakhs and Rs. 3.5 lakhs. Besides, there will also be a number of individual prizes and the cost of tickets to attend the concerts will be Rs. 100 each person.
The 10-day event which will be held under the patronage of the Nagaland State Government and Music Task Force (MTF) will bring Korean Pop, Electronic Dance Music (EDM), Blues, Christian Music & Rock – all on one stage.
It will also feature the Hornbill International Rock Contest 2018, starting from December 5 with the prelims and concluding with the grand finale on December 8. Of the 24 bands, five Nagaland bands will contest for the top-billed rock contest in the country. While four Nagaland bands qualified for the contest through auditions, the fifth – Stereotypes gets a wild card entry with Mizoram band Kroashia pulling out of the event. The other contesting bands are from Karnataka, Delhi, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Assam, Sikkim, Mizoram and Meghalaya.
The key attraction this year will be the K-Pop band MONT, who will take centre stage on December 4 in their pre-debut concert. The Korean boy band’s first teaser video garnered rave reviews and the band is being billed as the next big thing on the K-Pop stage.
The penultimate day of the festival, December 9, will feature famed Shillong-based Blues Rock band Soulmate. With numerous national and international performances, Soulmate is a household name for fans of the genre.
Another key attraction, being held for the first time, would be the Great Hornbill Guitar Ensemble featuring some of the top Naga Guitarists. The Great Hornbill Guitar Ensemble will be on stage on December 3.
The HIMF will kick off with Nagaland Unleashed – a platform for the best upcoming bands from Nagaland. Day 2 will witness Praise Sunday – an evening of Christian Music by some of the best Gospel bands and artistes from Nagaland. The Praise Sunday concept was first introduced by LiveNow Events in the 2017 edition with the objective to provide a platform to the talented Christian Music bands and solo artistes.
Jamir had previously said that the collection made during the Praise Sunday will be utilized for charity works.
Popular Nagaland band Lords of Rock (LOR) frontman Clement Imsong will host both the music festival and the rock contest.
The music festival will culminate on December 10 in an EDM Nite with Ukranian DJ Siana Catherine on the console revving up the pitch. DJ Siana is one of the youngest DJs gaining fame in the international music world and playing to packed venues.
LiveNow Events is an event management company founded in 2015 by a group of young Naga entrepreneurs. This is the second time LiveNow Events has been chosen to organize and manage the HIMF and HIRC. LiveNow Events’ Assistant Manager Lima Mongro and Kallol Dey were the others who had addressed the press.
