DIMAPUR, JULY 28: Reacting to the allegation by Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) president, K Therie that “19 NPF MLAs” who had recently merged with NDPP were “given Rs 2.50 crore each as election fund”, the 21 NPF MLAs who merged with the NDPP had demanded Therie to furnish the names of the MLAs who received Rs 2.50 crores from the deducted 70% of MGNREGA fund and also who delivered the payments to the MLAs and where and when?
The 21 MLAs sought immediate response with proof from Therie within 7 days, failing which he should apologize publicly for making such false accusations. “In the event of failure to comply to the above, we would be compelled to file defamation proceeding in the court of law”, warned Dr Chumben Murry, MLA & Advisor, in a press rejoinder issued on behalf of the 21 MLAs.
Dr Chumben stated that in a democratic country like ours, individuals have the right to point out corrupt practices and seek accountability and remedial measures from powers-that-be. However he said this right does not entail any individual to level accusations without proof and with the sole aim to cause embarrassment.
“Firstly, 21 NPF MLAs who merged to NDPP, so he needs to get his facts right before blurting out gibberish in public domain. Secondly, the wild allegation that the State Government deducted 70% from MGNREGA fund and we were given ? 2.50 crores each as election fund is just fictional tale and cheap gimmick”, he claimed.
“As a veteran politician, former Minister and a respectable figure in the society, Shri. K Therie should not indulge in cheap politics and invariably substantiate his claims with facts, which apparently he does not have!” added the rejoinder.
