Kohima, October 12: Medziphema Town Youth Organisation (MTYO) today stormed into the semi-finals of the 20th edition of NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy organized by Angami Students’ Union at Local Ground here on the theme “Goal for Peace”.
MTYO shattered the dreams of Naga Hospital Colony Youth Organisation (NHCYO) to move ahead into the play-off round by 3-0.
Playing the third quarter-final match, striker Darhü (9) netted a brace with his opening goal coming quite early within the 8th minute off a brilliant pass from midfielder Visalie (10). In the 20th minute, NHCYO got their first only opportunity as Chenibemo Tungoe (8) corner kick was flicked towards the target by Dziesengulie Solo (13) but barely went over the cross bar. Seven minutes later, MTYO skipper Khriese (7) header off Darhü cross was neatly blocked by NHCYO custodian Zhavikolie Kesiyie, who also made a diving save of a shot from Darhü couple of minutes before the half time.
After the lemon break, either side failed to making any strides until Darhü pushed in the second lead for MTYO with the support from Alfred (15) in 71st minute.
In the 85th minute, NHCYO striker Megovilie Measalhou (11) moved through the left wing tried to cross the ball for colleagues inside the D’box but MTYO custodian Neithovilie intercepted the ball and in the counter attack Visalie struck a long ranger third goal for the winners.
With the victory, MTYO will take on Centurion FC Kohima Village in the first semi-final on Oct 16 at 1:30 pm.
Secretary (Judicial), Justice & Law Department, Nino Iralu witnessed the match as patron.
