Discuss women’s empowerment with stakeholders

KOHIMA, JUNE 13: A strong team of 20 Members of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha of Parliamentary Committee on Empowerment of Women held series of discussion with various groups of people during their 3-day visit of Nagaland.
The team, led by Chairperson of Parliamentary Committee on Empowerment of Women, Dr. Heena Vijaykumar Gavit, MP Lok Sabha, who have reached the State capital yesterday from Imphal, Manipur, had series of discussion with various stakeholders on empowerment of women. The team had discussions with Nagaland State Resource Centre for Women, State Commission for Women, Social Welfare Department and several other stakeholders.
The team also held an informal discussion with representatives of M/o Finance, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, State Bank of India and NABARD on Skill Development Programmes in the State.
Today before their departure, the team will have interaction with representatives of Nagaland Women’s Battalion, CRPF and Home Affairs.
The visit of Parliamentary Committee on Empowerment of Women assumes significance at a time when the State Government is gearing up to conduct elections to Urban Local Bodies with 33% women reservation, which was strongly opposed by a section of people. Currently the Government is trying to convince people who were opposed to reservation. Elections to ULBs are likely to be conducted by September and October.
