DIMAPUR, MARCH 29: Two Medziphema Town based organizations have requested the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Chümoukedima to take immediate action against the Contractor involved in construction of 4-lane Highway vis-à-vis NHIDCL at Chainage 137 km (Medziphema Town).
In a joint letter, Medziphema Town Mechü Krotho and Gaon Bura Union of Medziphema Town reminded the DC that 4-laning of highways comes with specific guidelines and rules to be followed as per the design given by the authority.
They however alleged that the Contractor has failed to comply with the guidelines and design provided within Medziphema Town. “There is no Bus Bays on the right hand side (up) of the highway, because of which both commuters and pedestrians were put into danger at the junction, as the road leading to Community Health Centre (Hospital), village and colonies directly entering the carriage way and buses have to park on the main carriage way.
“As per our knowledge is concerned, land compensations were already paid to the landowners and ROW pillars were erected for construction of such lane, but the most important lane for safety was not done. There is no drainage at the main junction on the right hand side(up) of the highway thus, storm water floods at the base of the SBI building and spread to the adjoining road during rainy days”, the letter read.
The two organisations further alleged that there is neither a pavement for the pedestrians on both sides of the highway at the main town nor a waiting shed on the right side of the highway.
“No footbridge (over-bridge) has been constructed till date although the contractor assured to construct one for the welfare of pedestrians. We, therefore, earnestly request you to kindly look into the matter and take necessary action at the earliest for the welfare and safety of both the public and commuters at Medziphema Town main junction of NH 29”, the letter stated.
