DIMAPUR, MAY 28: Two persons were arrested on charges of child abuse at Sematilla, Dimapur, on Friday.
Police sources said that the accused persons have been identified as 46-year-old Lipokchuba and his wife Bendangsangla, aged 45.
Based on a suo moto case, an FIR has been lodged in Sub-Urban Police Station.
CHILDLINE Dimapur sources informed that the victim is a 10-year-old boy working as a domestic help.
“His father is no more and he has 6 siblings. Since his mother could not feed them, she sold the child to the couple for Rs 20,000 last year,” she said.
It was the neighbours who called Child Helpline Number 1098 to report the daily beatings, the source added.
“From head to toe, even the fingernails, they did not spare him,” the source informed. He is currently under treatment in a private clinic at Dimapur.
“The doctor suspects he might be suffering from anaemia too,” she said.
The District Child Welfare Committee (CWC), the establishment of District Child Protection Officer, and CHILDLINE Dimapur would take care of the boy’s medical expenses, she informed, adding that they are trying to track the mother.
As for the boy, once he leaves the clinic, they will place him at a Child Care Institute, after which the CWC will decide the next move. (Page News Service)
