Dimapur, May 25: Two Assam Rifles jawans were killed and 4 critically injured when a convoy of 40th Assam Rifles was attacked by suspected militants some 4 kms away from Tobu in Mon district Saturday afternoon.
According to sources, the Assam Rifles were coming from Tobu toward Aboi in 407 trucks and Tata Xenon when the militants blasted IED planted on the roadside at Thanyak, which was followed by exchange of fire for about an hour.
In the attack, one JCO, identified as Nb Sub Dina Nath Ram and Rifleman Kalidas Sharma were killed on the spot.
Assam Rifles sources informed that the party was moving to relieve another party from Tobu to Ukha. The injured were evacuated to 5 AF Hospital, Jorhat.
So far, no organization has claimed responsibility for the attack. Mon district administration and police officials immediately rushed to the spot after the ambush to take stock of the situation.
Meanwhile State Deputy Chief Minister, Y Patton, who is also the in-charge of Home, has condemned the incident between 40th Assam Rifle and unidentified miscreant at around 20 km away from Tobu Town under Mon district.
Patton directed the Nagaland Police for initiate a thorough investigation and get into the details of the case and bring justice according to the law of the land.
The Deputy CM also expressed deepest condolence to the bereaved families and wished speedy recovery to the injured personals. (Page News Service)
