Dimapur, February 19: The 1st North East Multi Media campaign organized by the Nagaland State AIDS Control Society on the theme ‘North East United Against HIV/AIDS’ was held on February 18 at Khuochiezie, Local Ground, Kohima.
Minister, Health & Family Welfare, S. Pangnyu Phom in his address congratulated and thanked the NACO for having the confidence in Nagaland to take up the maiden initiative of hosting the first NE Multi-Media event.
He mentioned that this event is significant to the North East and is one of the medium to reach out to the youth and general population with the message of HIV Prevention, Care, and Treatment.
He said it was very unfortunate that 3 states of the North East are amongst the 3 highest HIV prevalent States in the country but under the dynamic leadership and commitment provided at the National level to achieve the 90-90-90 targets to eliminate HIV and AIDS Epidemic by 2030 are much appreciated and well received at the State level.
Under the leadership of the Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio has been supportive and concerned about the issues surrounding the HIV and AIDS Epidemic, he said adding, the legislators have been contributing a sum of Rs 1 lakh each to the Legislatures Forum on AIDS (LFA) for the last ten years and has committed the support till March 2019.
He said a lot of good work has been done and have seen progress in the decline of the HIV and AIDS epidemic and urged the National AIDS Control Organization, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to consider the challenges of our States, and work out strategy and allocate resources as per the need of each State to address the epidemic effectively.
He said mass awareness and sensitization across service providers, community members, public and private sector, NGOs, and the general public is critical for its right implementation.
The State requires the technical and financial support of NACO to implement the HIV and AIDS, Bill 2017 in its true sense and spirit, he added.
Deputy Director General, NACO, Dr. Naresh Goel and Major General Pradeep Nair, YSM Inspector General, HQ IGAR (N) graced the occasion as Special Guests.
Earlier, Alobo Naga presented the Anthem of the 1st NE Multimedia campaign. The parade and inaugural programme was followed by Music Competition from 8 North East States along with an award ceremony at the end of the session where the first was bagged by ‘The Wishes’ from Manipur with a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh, the 2nd and 3rd was awarded to ‘Luli Yeptho and the Band’ from Nagaland and ‘Roll Heads’ from Sikkhim with a cash prize of Rs 70,000 and 50,000 respectively. Consolation prize of Rs 30,000 each was handed to the bands from Arunachal Pradesh ‘The Megh’, Vanghmun 100 years band from Tripura, Wreckless Shadow from Meghalaya, Jerry Lalrinawma from Mizoram and Tyrrhenion from Assam sponsored by the AIDS Health care foundation of India.
