Centurion FC, Kohima Eagles move into QF

Kohima, October 12: Centurion Football Club and Kohima Eagles booked their quarter final berths at the NSF trophy organised by Angami Students Union at Kohima Local Ground here.
In a close first match, Centurion FC defeated Rangers FC Medziphema by a solitary goal. Centurion FC and Rangers FC Medziphema displayed equal strength in the first match which was put on hold for several minutes due to unfavorable weather condition at the beginning of the second-half.
Later, making a break-through in the 62nd minute of the play, Rabindra Meitei of Centurion FC scored the winning goal.
Maldar Patgiri, Medoneituo Sekhose, Imlongchaba, Vekhruto Resü of Centurion FC, and Rufous and Yavi of Rangers FC Medziphema were cautioned with yellow card for foul play.
Playing the second match of the day, Kohima Eagles FC defeated St. Joseph’s College Jakhama by 2 goals to nil. Kethosilie Zatsu beautifully converted the first goal through a header in the 7th minute. The second goal for Kohima Eagles came from the boot of Mengüzelie Rütsa in the 17th minutes, after which SJC’s defensive strategy restricted the Kohima Eagles from netting any further goals.
In the second half, St Joseph with cheers of support by student spectators did return strong but were unable to make any breakthrough into the rival nets.
Kechi Kulimbe & Mengüzelie Rütsa of Kohima Eagles FC, and Shamlau of SJC were penalised with yellow card for unsporting behaviour.
With today’s win, Kohima Eagles FC will take on Centurion FC on October 16.
