Kohima, October 16: Playing the last two quarter final matches of the ongoing edition of the prestigious students’ memorial soccer tourney organised by Angami Students’ Union at Local Ground here today, Centurion Football Club Kohima and Senapati FC Manipur have booked the semi-final berth.
In the third quarter final match, Centurion FC Kohima defeated strong contenders of the tourney Kohima Eagles by a solitary goal. The closely contested math witnessed Imlongchaba scoring the only goal in the 15th minute with Centurion FC reigning on it till the conclusion of the stipulated time.
Imlongchaba made an excellent right footer stride off a centre cross from colleague to beat the rival custodian to score the winning goal.
During the match, Hekato Aye and Rhitso Mero of Kohima Eagles, and Nighato Assumi, Rabindra Meitei, Imlongchaba and Olando Yimchunger of Centurion FC were penalised with yellow card for foul play.
The last quarter final match between Saptiqa FC Zunheboto and Senapati FC Manipur was also keenly contested with the visitors managing to proceed ahead with the solitary goal scored early by Nanda in the 13th minute of the play. During the moment, Nanda made full use of being lanky to surpass the rival defence and pierce the only winning strike.
Boris of Senapati FC and Aben & Luto Shohe of Saptiqa FC were yellow carded for unsporting behavior during the match.
With today’s win, Senapati FC Manipur and Centurion FC Kohima will clash in the second semi-final on October 18 at 1:30pm.
