19 charge-sheeted in Lamhainamdi Village killings case

DIMAPUR, JULY 22: Exactly 4 months after the killing of 3 persons at Lamhainamdi Village in Peren District, Nagaland Police on Thursday filed a charge-sheet against 19 persons, some of them belonging to different factions of armed Naga groups, for their alleged involvement in the brutal incident.

A press release by Superintendent of Police (Crime) and PRO, PHQ, Kohima, informed that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed to probe the killings has submitted charge-sheet under Sections “302/120B/436/34 of IPC r/w 25 (1A/25(1B) (a)/27(3) Arms Act and 7/8 NSR”.
Out of the 19 accused persons identified by the Police, 7 have already been arrested and are currently in judicial custody, it informed.
They have been identified as Kisheto Zhimomi (Head GB of Vihuto Village), Munwang Konyak (NSCN-IM member), Tongkhalhao Sitlhou, Vikheshe Achumi, Yepeka Kiba (NSCN-IM member), Lentilen Hangsing (GPRN/NSCN member), and Livingson Awomi. Hunt for the remaining 12 suspects continues, it added.
Four suspected persons who were arrested earlier in connection with this case, and subsequently granted bail, have been “released from the case”, Police informed.
“Earlier, a suo motto case in Crime No. 02/2021 under Sections 302/120B/188/34 IPC R/W 25 1B/27 (3) Arms Act was registered on 23/03/2021 against unknown persons by State Crime Police Station (SCPS) relating to the firing and killing of three persons in Lamhainamdi village on 22/03/2021. Subsequently, a Special Investigation Team headed by a senior police officer was constituted for investigation of the case. The investigation had revealed that the 19 charge-sheeted accused persons were part of deep-rooted criminal conspiracy to plan, prepare and execute the killing of three persons at Lamhainamdi Village”, read the press release.
During the investigation, the SIT had visited the makeshift camp in the jungle, which is 2-3 km away from Vihuto Village, used for accommodation and preparation by the charge-sheeted accused persons for the commission of the crime and collected various incriminating evidences, it informed.
The SIT also seized various incriminating evidences such as photographs of accused with arms during their stay at makeshift jungle camp, videos, certain technical evidences, crucial material evidences such as ammunitions and other incriminating materials from the scene of crime, Police said.
“Identities of few other unknown persons involved in this case are also being established. Further investigation in the case continues”, it added.

On March 22 this year, a group of unidentified gunmen had killed 3 persons at Lamhainamdi Village in Peren district, an area in the Peren-Dimapur border which is currently in dispute.
Back then, the Chairman of Lamhainamdi Village Council, Heigumchube had told Nagaland Page that on March 22 at around 3:30 p.m., 55-year-old Itingwangbe Haikam, accompanied by his son-in-law Sikamwangbo (21) and another youth, Hangyi (25), were gunned down by the assailants when they had gone to their plot of land in a pick-up truck with construction materials.
