15 army personnel test COVID-19 positive in Kohima


Kohima, June 24: Detection of 15 positive COVID-19 cases at Jakhama Army Cantonment under Kohima district has caused fear psychosis among the general populace in the Southern Angami region.
Official sources in the Health and Family Welfare Department confirmed that out of the 15 positive cases detected from Kohima on June 23, twelve are from Jakhama army camp quarantine centre while the other 3 are from different quarantine centres.
Sources said that a group of army personnel had returned to Jakhama garrison from different parts of the country last week and put under strict quarantine as per the military SOP rules.
The first positive case among them was detected on June 19 last while two more detected on Tuesday while today was the highest with 12 infections, taking the total confirmed cases in Jakhama army camp to 15.
They are being taken care at the Jakhama Army Hospital and are all asymptomatic cases, sources said.
Sources said that the department and the army have started contact tracing of persons who came in contact with the positive patients from their place of origin and back to camp.
Health officials without revealing the actual numbers, said that samples of those coming to close contact with the 15 army personnel have been sent for testing.
Meanwhile, fear psychosis looming high among the general populace of Southern Angami region, specially the camp’s adjacent villages, i.e. Jakhama and Kigwema, the civil societies are taking up the matter of sealing the camp area with the district administration.
