144 CrPC imposed in Dimapur, Chumoukedima, Niuland and Peren

DIMAPUR, JUNE 25: In order to maintain peace and tranquility during the conduct of ULB election 2024 to the DMC/EDTC/CTC/MTC/NTC, the Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, Kevithuto Sophie has imposed Section 144 CrPC in Dimapur, Chumoukedima and Niuland from 5 p.m. of January 25 to 7 p.m. of January 27.
According to the order issued by the Commissioner of Police, assembly in group of 5 or more people in public places within the jurisdiction of DMC/EDTC/CTC/MTC/NTC except within the 100 meter perimeter of the polling station during the scheduled polling period has been prohibited.
The restrictions under the prohibitory order include:
Movement of person/s from one ward to another or from adjoining villages to Municipal/Town Council jurisdictions on the day of poll.
Holding and attending any public meeting, procession or any unlawful assembly in connection with election; or display to the public any election matter by means of any print/electronic media or other similar apparatus; or propagating any election matter thereto, in any polling area; intended or calculated to influence or affect the result of election.
Carrying of lethal weapons and firearms in public places, including lathis, machete/dao, daggers, sticks, spears, swords, catapult, etc.
Carrying of any kind of inflammable objects which may endanger public life and property.
Use of PA system in any public places or near the polling station so as to cause public annoyance or disturbance.
Any individual/group found in contravention of this order would be liable for punitive action Under Section 188 of Indian Penal Code and the Nagaland Municipal Act 2023.
To take precautionary measures to prevent occurrence of any untoward incidents and in the interest of maintaining peace and tranquility in all town council areas of Peren district during the schedule for the conduct of municipal and town council election 2024, with free and fair manner, the Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate, Peren, Vineet Kumar, in exercise of the power conferred upon Section 144 of the CrPC of 1973, prohibited assembly of 5 or more persons and vehicular movement of non-essential nature with effect from 5 p.m. of June 25 till 11 p.m. of June 26 across Peren District.
Deputy Commissioner & District Magistrate Peren Vineet Kumar further stated that the officials and staff of district Administration security personnel, Magistrate on duty, medical personnel and persons engaged in election duty, essentials services would be exempted and all movement of commercial vehicles goods/passengers or vehicles carrying essentials commodities, Press and Media telecom services, medical emergencies shall also be exempted from above restricted, DC Peren added
Any person violating Section 144 CrPC imposed in the district would be prosecuted under relevant Section of the Law. Deputy Commissioner & District Magistrate, Peren, informed that as the notice cannot be served individually to all the concerned this order is hereby issued ex- parte.
