12th Open Naga Wrestling Meet on Mar 7

Kohima, February 3: Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) will be conducting the 12th Open Naga Wrestling Meet at Kohima Local Ground on March 7. The event will be hosted by Angami Sports Association.
Announcing this during a press conference at its office at AMK building here, NWA officials led by president Neivikuolie Khatsu said this year the Association has enhanced the prize money from Rs 4.6 lakh in 2017 to Rs 6.10 lakh.
The enhancement has affected the top four winners, which include first – Rs 2 lakh (earlier Rs 1.5 lakh), second – Rs 1.5 lakh (earlier Rs 1 lakh), third – Rs 1 lakh (earlier Rs 70,000) and fourth – Rs 70,000 (earlier Rs 50,000).
The losing quarter finalist will receive Rs 10,000 each and pre-quarter-finalist Rs 5,000 each while the best tactic will get Rs 10,000, he said.
He also informed that interested wrestlers from the wrestling tribes, i.e. Angami, Chakhesang and Zeliang can submit the filled up participation forms through their respective tribes while from other tribes can approach NWA office.
He said the spectators tickets have been fixed at Rs 100 for gallery, Rs 500 for chair and Rs 2000 for donors.
Meanwhile, Khatsu also informed that Rung Lian Ceu, a Myanmarese-US wrestler has confirmed to compete in the forthcoming Open Naga Wrestling meet. Ceu is reportedly the reigning US and Myanmar Wrestling champion, he said while adding his participation is confirmed and this will be the first time that an international wrestler would be part of the Naga wrestling.
Indigenous belt wrestlers from other parts of the India – Delhi, Maharashtra and Jharkhand would also be joining the competition, he said.
NWA general secretary Vekhozo informed that Ceu would be accompanied by Chairman of Chin World Wrestling in USA, Ang Cung and Henry. During their stay here, NWA would be holding interactive session with them and discuss future plans to develop belt wrestling among themselves and in international arena so as to make it an Olympic event.
Further, Khatsu also announced the event calendar of NWA for the year 2019-20, which are as follows:
Already participated in 64th National Traditional Wrestling (Belt) Wrestling) Championsip Under 19 Boys and Girls at Belagavi in Karnataka from January 6 to 8 and won 3 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze.
Other upcoming events are besides the Open Naga Wrestling:
38th Boys Free Style & 22nd Girls Sub Junior (Cadet) National Wrestling Championship from February 17-20 to be participated by 5 boys & 4 girls with 3 officials; International Ethnofestival (Belt Wrestling) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from March 9-19 to be participated by 2 players on invitation; 7th NTWFI Meet in April; Wrestling Referee Clinic in October-November; Senior National Free Style from November 19 and 13th Hornbill International Naga Style Wrestling on December 4.
Khatsu also informed that NWA would be holding the 1st State Level Indoor Belt Wrestling Championship in October-November with participants expected from the districts and tribes. (Page News Service)
