122 cases disposed by Lok Adalat in Nagaland

Dimapur, September 8: National Lok Adalat was observed in nine District Headquarters which constituted nine Lok Adalat benches on Saturday. In total 194 cases were listed before the Lok Adalat bench for settlement where today’s Lok Adalat was able to settle and dispose of 122 cases. Rs 1,05,09,903 was the total settlement amount involved in the disposed and settled cases. The settlement amount includes the fine money, bank recovery money, compensation money, etc.
Today’s cases referred and taken up for settlement were dealt mostly on bank recovery cases, Motor Accident Claim Tribunal (MACT) cases. The Lok Adalat sittings were observed within the premises of the District Court Buildings and prior to the holding of Lok Adalat, parties and litigants were informed to come forward and settle their disputes/cases in the forum of Lok Adalat.
Nagaland State Legal Services Authorities has also been coordinating and sending communications to the banks, insurance companies, financial institutions, departments in the public utility sector and other parties and litigants for appearing before the National Lok Adalat for amicable settlement of disputes and cases.
During the proceedings, the District judges, Chief Judicial Magistrate and Civil Judges acting as presiding officers have shown vigorous efforts towards the success of the Lok Adalat and the Panel Lawyers served as conciliators along with the Para legal Volunteers who acted as members. Also the officials of commercial banks, financial institution, insurance companies, litigants showed cooperation to participate and settle cases in all fairness, expectations, voluntariness, neighborliness, transparency and lack of animosity.
The proceedings were also conducted in local dialects for convenience of the uneducated litigants without stressing much on legal technicalities.
Nagaland State Legal Services Authority is the implementing Nodal Agency vested with the jurisdiction to organised and conduct National Lok Adalat (Peoples’ Court) under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987.
The next National Lok Adalat is scheduled to be held on December 8 and citizens have been informed that for listing matters in the next National Lok Adalat to contact the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (or) approach the District Legal Services Authority which are attached to the District Court Building in every districts or the concerned Court for referring the case to the National Lok Adalat.
